Marcos Santos, a native of Portugal, began his vocal studies at the Conservatorio Nacional de Lisbon. After in 1999 Mr. Santos successfully auditioned for the highly selective  Master vocal studies program at Mannes College of Music in New York.


While at Mannes, he perfomed the role of Des Grieux in Massenet's Manon, conducted by Joseph Colaneri (Metropolitan Opera).


Mr. Santos made is debut as Alfredo in La Traviata in New Jersey  with the stage director James Marvel, and sang the role of Baron Ottokar in Weber's Der Freischütz with the Bronx Opera.


Recently worked  as Alfredo in Verdi´s Traviata with the famous stage director Sir Jonathan Miller in Norway conducted by Marc Soustrot.


Mr. Santos sang a duet Verdi concert with the acclaimed soprano Maria Guleghina and the conductor Lawrence Foster at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, and the 4th Jew in Salome by Richard Strauss and  on the last seasons he has performed roles in Samson et Dalilah, Elektra et lately in Norma all conducted with Maestro Lawrence Foster.


Marcos  Santos made his debut at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon in the opera The Nose by Chostakovich with Donato Renzetti.


Performances include soloist works by Mendelssohn's Elijah with the New Jersey  Orchestra, and in Haydn's Saint Nicolai Messe with the Summit Chamber Orchestra.


As a recitalist he has performed  solo Recitals all over the world, in Tokyo at Suntory Hall in Yokohama and Morioka in the  presence of HRH The Imperatrice Princess. In Madrid at Escorial, in Paris at the Conservatoire Superieur, in Sweden in Malmo and Unsgskar,  in Lisbon, Azores  and recently in New York City at the Merkin Hall.


As a concert singer Mr. Santos has performed with Orquestra Sinfónica da O.P.M., Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil, and has sung the tenor soloist in masterworks such as Mozart's Requiem, Bontempo's Requiem, and Haydn's Nelson Mass, Petite Messe Solenele de Rossini, Messiah of Haendel in several festivals in Portugal, Spain and USA.


Mr. Santos did masterclasses with Lorraine Nubar, Regine Crespin, Ragnar Ulfung, Nico Castel, Fabio Yepes acevedo, Renata Scotto and Regina Resnik in Portugal and in New York.


And  worked with renowned pianists João Paulo Santos (Teatro São Carlos), Paula Grimaldi, Dalton Baldwin (Casa de Mateus), Pierre Vallet (Metropolitan Opera), Martin Yazdzik (Assistant of Sir Colin Davis), and  lately with Joan Dornemann (Metropolitan Opera).


Mr. Santos was a semifinalist for the Accademia di cantanti of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
